714-X or 714X , also referred to as " trimethylbicyclonitramineoheptane chloride ", is a mixture of substances produced by CERBE Distribution Inc. and sold as alternative medical treatment which is claimed to cure cancer, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia and other diseases. There is no scientific evidence that 714-X is effective in treating any cancer, and its marketing is considered a health fraud in the US.

Histori
714-X was developed by Gaston Naessens, who is from France and tries there to practice medicine without a license. Naessens moved to Quebec and continued his research from the early 1970s. In 1989 he was arrested but released from the accusations of accessory to murder, after a 714-X cancer patient died after a refusal to take a conventional medical treatment.
The name "714-X" is chosen by Naessens to represent its initials (letters 7 and 14 of the alphabet) and the year of its birth (1924, since X is the 24th letter). Marketers claim that 714-X works by counteracting the harm done by "somatids", non-bacterial, viral or fungal forms of life, but which do not belong to different domains unknown to modern science and medicine.
Sales of 714-X were banned in the US by the Food and Drug Administration, and in 1996 Charles Pixley was tried and jailed for advocating and distributing it. During the process, Pixley claimed it was a re-branding of a homeopathic drink, which was known before the formation of the FDA, but Naessens later said that it was completely different and had nothing to do with homeopathy.

Composition
714-X is advertised as containing camphor combined with excess nitrogen, ammonium salts, sodium chloride, and ethanol. An analysis by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found that 714-X was 94% water, with a small amount of other salts and less than 0.01% camphor.
Administration
714-X is usually injected into the lymphatic system through the groin. Or, it may be inhaled through the nebulizer.
Security and effectiveness
No published studies have been done on the safety or efficacy of 714-X in humans, and some available animal studies have not shown favorable effects. The American Cancer Society has stated: "There is no scientific proof that 714-X is effective in treating any type of cancer or other disease."
Legal issues
The FDA has banned the import and sale of 714-X as a health fraud, and at least one prison sentence has been reduced to import it to America.
714-X is manufactured in Canada, where it is legal to purchase for personal use through doctors under the Canada Health Special Access Program, a law that provides access to non-marketed treatments for terminal illness when no marketable alternatives are available. However, in October 2004, Health Canada told the manufacturer to remove all references to the complex from its website. On July 28, 2006, Justice FranÃÆ'§ois Lemieux of the Canadian Federal Court granted a request for a review conducted by a group of 714X patients. The verdict canceled the Health Canada policy statement and restored access to 714-X under the Special Access Program under certain conditions.
