During 1980 and 1981, the American punk scene saw the entry of 7 "EP from Washington DC's Dischord Records from bands like Minor Threat and Teen Idles. This small-tempo footage packed 10 songs and helped define the 1980s Hardcore punk genre.

In wanting to pay tribute to this faster form of punk rock, and to showcase their new drummer talents, DH Peligro, Dead Kennedys collected some new material and collected some songs that were only heard in the 1978 demo and early live performances. These songs form the basis for In God We Trust, Inc. Maintaining with rough-hard DC hardcore, the lead recording tapes announce the retrieval number and include drumstick clicks and counting preceding many of the recording songs.

Songs

Much of the material on the EP was left over from the start in the Dead Kennedys career. The second guitarist 6025, who left the band in 1979, wrote the main song, "Religious Vomit". The song "Kepone Factory" is a reworking "Kepone Kids", which appeared on the 1978 demo tape group. Alternate versions of "Moral Majority" and "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" are in one package with anti-fascist arm tires. "We Have a Big Problem Now" is a rewritable version of the band's first single "California ÃÆ'berber Alles". Initially excavations at California's governor Jerry Brown, the band worked on the song being about the newly-elected president Ronald Reagan and added an element of lounge music in contrast to the fastcore hardcore punk music on the rest of the record. The EP closed with the theme cover of the 1960s TV show Rawhide .

Recording

The Dead Kennedys entered Subterranean Studios to record eight songs on June 19, 1981. All the songs were recorded instantly without overdubs to the ½ "8-track reel and with the band defining some arrangement of songs between the take.

This session was recorded by Joe Rees of Target Video with Mike Fox, the session engineer, sending a rough mix to the video feed. When the group took a trail for mixing, they found that the magnetic tape used to record was damaged - the surface of the oxide from the recording began to peel during playback, thus damaging the recording. The band then re-recorded the eighth song on August 22 at Mobius Music, and the recording was released on EP.

Years later, the improved restoration technique allowed five songs to be recovered from master cassettes from previous Subterranean sessions. This, along with a rough video mix of the remaining three songs, appears on DVD The Lost Tapes.

Artwork and releases

The album cover depicts Jesus gold crucified on the cross of a dollar bill, against the backdrop of a shiny metal material. The band released an international record in 1981 on their own Alternate tentacle label, in partnership with other independent record labels in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The original A-side vinyl version consists of tracks 1-5, and Side B tracks 6-8.

The original cassette version compiles all 8 songs on Side A and Side B left that are deliberately silent. Printed on the side of the second tape is an explanation, "Home taping is killing the recording industry profits! We leave this side empty so you can help."

In God We Trust, Inc. first appeared on a compact disc in 1985 as a bonus material added to Dead 1982 1982 Plastic Disaster Survival .
