Histori
Formasi dan meningkatnya ketenaran (2003)
Directed and songwriter Sam Endicott and keyboardist John Conway were classmates at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. As new students, their musical partnership begins when playing local bars on many recording projects, sometimes including the future star of CSI: Miami Jonathan Togo. After graduation, Endicott and Conway moved to New York City, where Endicott switched from bass guitar to vocals and began writing music that would later become "The Bravery".
Guitarist Michael Zakarin joined after answering an ad in a local newspaper, and brought him along with bassist Mike Hindert, his classmate from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Drummer Anthony Burulcich lives in Boston, Massachusetts, where he studied percussion at Berklee College of Music. After the death of his sister, Burulcich moved back to his childhood home on Long Island New York to be with his family. On the day Burulcich moves, while driving with his things on a U-Haul truck, Endicott calls him. Endicott and Burulcich were introduced by friends from the New York band, Bishop Allen. Although Burulcich was the official drummer for the band, many drums on the debut album were recorded before Burulcich joined the band, by Steven Lourie of the Boston band Lincoln Conspiracy.
The band played their first show at Stinger Club in Brooklyn in November 2003. To promote their local show, they produced 1,000 posters and 3 cd song covers containing "An Honest Mistake", "No Brakes" and "Public Service Announcement". Both items feature an iconic "Phoenix" image by New York artist C. Finley. The same artwork later became the cover of The Bravery's debut album. The band itself promotes themselves by distributing CDs and posters on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and Brooklyn. The band also promotes themselves on the internet and is one of the first bands on MySpace to have a profile. Their MySpace profile points to thebravery.com, where the same 3 songs are available as downloadable MP3s.
