Sugar is an American alternative rock band of the early 1990s. Formed in 1992, they were led by singer and guitarist Bob Mold (former HÃÆ'üsker DÃÆ'ü), alongside bassist David Barbe (ex-Mercyland) and drummer Malcolm Travis (ex-Human Sexual Response).

After frontman Bob Mold departed from HÃÆ'üsker DÃÆ'ü, he released two solo attempts, Workbook and Black Sheets of Rain ; the album was not well received and Mold was released from his contract with Virgin Records America in 1991 as a result. Shortly after, Mold recorded a demo tape of over thirty songs and formed Sugar with David Barbe and Malcolm Travis. The band was named in Athens, GA Waffle House Restaurant when Mold saw a sugar packet on the table where she and two other band members were sitting. Their first concert was on February 20, 1992, at 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia, after a few weeks of warming up in downtown R.E.M.
Then in 1992, the band released the album Copper Blue on Rykodisc in the US and Creation Records in the UK. Copper Blue is named Album Of The Year 1992 by NME . The music video for singles "If I Can not Change Your Mind" and "Powerless" received broad broadcast time on MTV shortly after the album's release. The single for "If I Can not Change Your Mind" has moderate success on the UK Singles Chart.
In the spring of 1993, they released Beast, an EP of material recorded during the Copper Blue session. This album proved to be more aggressive than content on Copper Blue . After unsuccessful attempts to record the second album, the band rejoined and released the File Under: Easy Listening in September 1994. 7 on UK Albums Charts.
A b-side compilation album, Besides , was followed in July 1995. The band played their last show in Japan in 1995, Mold broke the band in the spring of 1996. Barbe wanted to spend more time with his growth. family and extended his solo career. Travis takes over the drum slot in Kustomized.
Bob Mold spent the summer of 2012 on tour and playing Blue Copper overall.
