OpenConnect is an open source software application for connecting to virtual private networks (VPNs), which implement secure point-to-point connections.
It was originally written as a replacement for open source for Cisco's AnyConnect SSL VPN client, which is supported by several Cisco routers. In 2013, the OpenConnect project also offers servers that are compatible with AnyConnect, and thus offer a complete client server VPN solution.
The OpenConnect client adds support for Juniper Networks SSL VPN in version 7.05, and the fork has provided experimental support for Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect VPN.

Architecture
OpenConnect uses protocols compatible with the AnyConnect SSL protocol, implemented in an open source project not affiliated with Cisco. AnyConnect VPNs utilize TLS and DTLS to encrypt and authenticate packaged VPN traffic.
